Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 1:30 pm at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church for John Warren Prejean, Sr. 64, who passed away, Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Fr. Hampton Davis, III will be the Celebrant of the Mass. Interment will be at St. Martin de Porres Cemetery.
A native of Lafayette, La, he was a retired truck driver for many years and also a
legendary Zydeco and Rythym and Blues artist. He traveled all over the world promoting Zydeco and the Creole Culture with his band,
Creole Zydeco Farmers. He was famous for his hit Chank-a-Chank Man.
He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Catherine V. Prejean. Eight daughters, Dianna (Michael) Davis of Opelousas, Allison M. Willis, Tina M. (Terry) Sam,Mable P. (Lawrence) Parker, and Tasha Anderson all of Lafayette, Ramona Lynn Kennedy of Carencro, Jenny Journet of Baton Rouge, and Krystal Nicolle Kennedy of Houston, TX
Two sons, John Warren Prejean, Jr. and Ali James (Tessica) Prejean both of Lafayette. Three step children, Ursula (Jerry) Bowman, Thaddeus (Nicole) Stevenson, and Heather (Andre) Brantley all of Shreveport. Thirty five grandchildren, three greatgrandchildren. Three sisters, Helen (Michael) Taylor of Maurice, Yvonne P. Henry (Junius Noel) of Carencro, and Mary J. Duhon of Lafayette. Three brothers, James (Carrie) Prejean, Sr. and Howard (Monica) Prejean both of Lafayette, and Paul (Patricia) Prejean, Sr. of Duson. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy S. (Mable) Prejean, Sr. daughter, Patricia A. Prejean, two sisters, Rose M. (Clarence, Sr.) Broussard and Yolanda Prejean. Two brothers Aaron Prejean, Sr. (Marjorie) and Roy (Sharlene) Prejean, Jr. and two grandchildren, Ebony Prejean and Damian Parker.
Visitation will held Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Syrie Funeral Home from 7 am until time of services with a Rosary to be recited at 10:30 am.
