The Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities has awarded a 2024 Emergency Mitigation & Preparedness Grant in the amount $10,000 to the Zydeco Historical and Preservation Society, Inc. for the mitigation of previous impacts from emergency events and preparing for future threats. The LEH Emergency Mitigation and Preparedness Grant will assist The Zydeco Historical and Preservation Society, Inc. (ZHPS) in preparing for future emergency events by providing the necessary funding to train in-house ZHPS staff appropriate and current disaster mitigation approaches and best practices. A portion of the grant will be used hire a qualified professional consultant to assist the ZHPS in the development of our emergency planning policies and procedures and storage best practices.
The ZHPS will use the LEH grant to secure and protect irreplaceable articles, cultural artifacts, and data that is not appropriately stored and extremely venerable to being severely damaged or destroyed during an emergency disaster event. A portion of the LEH Emergency Mitigation and Preparedness Grant would be used to upgrade and expand our ZHPS local and cloud-based storage capacity to create digital redundancy and protect our data from localized disasters such as fire and flooding.
We would like to thank The Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities for their support!
