On Friday, Dwayne Dopsie & Zydeco Hellraisers storm the stage as Opelousas celebrates the 10-year anniversary of Music & Market.
The concerts take place in historic Opelousas and continue every Friday through Oct. 21. The series spotlights some of Louisiana’s best musical artists and popular fresh homegrown vegetables for purchase directly from local farmers. Food and drinks will be available, including barbecue from Briskett Baskett in Opelousas.
The featured Louisiana product for this opening concert will be squash. Farmers will provide samples and recipe ideas for this healthy vegetable. Featured produce this season include squash, kale and mustard greens. Visitors can pick up fresh vegetables on Friday night — or during regular Farmers Market hours: 6:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Dopsie hails from one of the most influential Zydeco families in the world. This singer/songwriter and accordionist has performed all over the world since debuting his band, Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers, at age 19.
Dopsie grew up in Lafayette as did four of the Hellraisers.
The performance takes place at Le Vieux Village/Farmers Market Pavilion, located in the Opelousas Tourist Center at 828 E. Landry St., just off Interstate 49.
Music & Market takes place from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m., with music beginning at 6 p.m. Concert-goers are welcome to bring lawn chairs for seating.
