Queen of Zydeco Honored At Homecoming Concert

Zydeco Nation's First Lady, Queen Ida Inducted into
The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame!

Ida Guillory, known the the Zydeco Nation and the World  as "Queen Ida" was the first Zydeco/Creole Musician to win a Grammy Award and was recently inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame.

A Zydeco legend brought down the house this weekend at the Lake Charles Central School.

Lake Charles native Ida Guillory, 84, is hailed as the irrefutable Queen of Zydeco music.

Accompanied by Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience, Queen Ida was honored Saturday night with a hometown concert.

She is credited with introducing Zydeco all over the world and said she had her doubts when she first began touring the globe.

"Actually, I was afraid when I first started going overseas with the Zydeco music. But they accepted the music like I did not expect them to. But they did ... they loved it. They didn't particularly dance by it but they moved their bodies one way or the other until finally they started really dancing to the music," said Queen Ida. "It's really great to be home in front of this crowd. I really appreciate the reception I am getting at home."

Though she retired six years ago, Queen Ida said she still enjoys taking the stage and sharing her Zydeco.
