The life, musical work, and legacy of the late "King of Zydeco", Clifton Chenier was once again recognized by The Recording Academy on Tuesday, December 7, 2010.
Clifton Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band's 1975 album recording "Bogalusa Boogie" was inducted into The GRAMMY Hall of Fame, a very special recognition that honors recordings of historical significance that are 25 years old or older. The 2011 Grammy Hall Of Fame Inductees is a class of 30 recordings that will be permanently displayed at The GRAMMY Museum.
According to Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy, "the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame represents all genres of music, acknowledging the diversity of musical expression for which The Academy has become renowned"... "these musical treasures have brought us timeless recordings, and each of them deserves to be memorialized. These recordings are living evidence that music remains an indelible part of our culture."
"Bogalusa Boogie" was recorded in 1975 and is regarded as one of the most significant Zydeco music and music recordings of all time. What the makes "Bogalusa Boogie" album special is that all 13 songs were recorded in one session without any second takes.
According to Arhoolie producer Christ Strachwitz, "“The band ripped through one number after another without second takes as if they were playing a hot dance and were enjoying every moment of it.”
"Bogalusa Boogie" became the musical blueprint whose elements can be found in most live modern Zydeco recordings, and s one of the very few studio records to capture the intensity of a live Zydeco performance.
"Bogalusa Boogie is the only Zydeco album to receive a five (5) star musical rating from Rolling Stone Magazine and has been called "indispensable" and one of the "best Zydeco albums of all time."
