Good Cajun and Creole food, great summertime weather, activities for children, Zydeco dance lessons, and a beautiful environment were a few of the elements needed to make the 7th Annual Ardenwood Cajun/Zydeco Festival, held on Saturday, September 27, 2003, one of Northern California’s best kept secret.

Add a rare performance by Mr. Preston Frank and Family along with Keith Frank and the Soileau Zydeco Band and you have one truly unforgettable experience. Hailing from the small rural community of Soileau, Louisiana in Allen Parish, the Frank family is among the great Creole musical families.

Preston Frank can trace his musical lineage at least as far back as his great grandfather, Creole accordionist, Mr. Joseph Frank Jr., and his great-great grandfather, the well know Creole fiddler, Mr. Joseph Frank Sr.

This year’s Ardenwood Cajun/Zydeco Festival showcased a very talented lineup. Lake Charles born & California based, Gerard Landry and the Lariats paced the festival with some hot Cajun sounds. The Zydeco Flames brought that hot Zydeco sound to the festival crowd. Led by the soulful and jazzy vocals of Lloyd Meadows, the Zydeco Flames kept the crowd moving and dancing non stop!

Not to be out done, Andre Thierry & Zydeco Magic entertained the enthusiastic crowd entertained with some skillful accordion playing and singing. The large crowd was also treated to a few new songs off of Andre Thierry & Zydeco Magic’s upcoming CD "A Whole Lotta Something."

Mr. Preston Frank gave the Ardenwood crowd a rare experience of hearing authentic Creole music by skillfully performing that old time Creole la la music. Joined by Balfa Toujours fiddler Kevin Wimmer and Keith Frank & the Soileau Zydeco Band, Mr. Preston Frank’s performance was outstanding!

The Zydeco Boss himself, Keith Frank & the Soileau Zydeco Band closed out this west coast festival with a hot, non-stop mixture Creole music and Zydeco Music (Keith Frank Style)…one of the best performances the west coast has seen this year!

This year's 2003 Ardenwood Festival was dedicated to and honored the lifeworks of Mr. Charlie St. Mary who died in December 2002.  Charlie St. Mary played an influential role in the musical legacy of Zydeco, Creole, and Cajun Music in the Bay Area.
