It was a foot stomping Zydeco celebration as hundreds of people attended the 13th Annual Lebeau Zydeco Festival on Saturday, July 5, 2003 on the grounds of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lebeau, Louisiana. Periodic rain failed to dampen the spirit and enthusiasm of the festival as people enjoyed good Creole food and the pulsating sounds of a very strong festival musical line up.
Terry and the Zydeco Bad Boys set the tone of the festival by delivering an upbeat performance. The New Zydeco Force showed why they are generating much excitement within the Zydeco Nation with their re-emergence on the musical scene by showcasing their musical talents and creativity by play songs such as “Fred G. Zydeco” as well as other recordings from their new CD (Z-Force Style: Rock Awhile).
Brian Jack and the Zydeco Gamblers followed with a high-energy stage show by performing songs like “Chere Bae Bae” and “No Good Woman” amidst a landscape of umbrellas, tents, and lawn chairs that keep the dance floor full.
Step Rideau and the Zydeco Outlaws gave a performance in front of the hometown crowd that can only be described as “haunting!” This was clearly one of Step Rideau’s best performances as he sang soothing zydeco ballads such as “Share This Night” and a remake of Clifton Chenier’s “Easy Easy Baby” followed by highly syncopated rugged and raw zydeco songs like “Ploy Vek Mon” and “Ga De Gone”.
Chris Ardoin and Double Clutchin’ closed out the festival in hot zydeco style. Perhaps one of the best vocal bands in contemporary zydeco music, Chris Ardoin and Double Clutchin kept the crowd moving with Zydeco Classics like “Lake Charles Connection” and a soulful performance of “All I See Is Pain” (one of the most beautiful songs in zydeco music today).
The 13th Annual Lebeau Zydeco Festival is a fundraiser for and is sponsored by the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
