Paul "Lil' Buck" Sinegal
"Gentle Giant of Guitar"
January 14, 1944 - June 10, 2019
Many in the Zydeco and Blues Nation were deeply sadden to learn that internationally known Blues and Zydeco guitarist, Paul "Lil Buck" Sinegal, died on Monday, June 10, 2019 at his home in Lafayette, Louisiana at the age of 75.

Paul Sinegal was given the nickname "Lil Buck" (short for Lil Buckwheat) due to his small frame and short stature, but among fellow musicians and those who heard him play, he was a Zydeco and Blues giant with over 300 credited musical recordings in his career.

Over the years he was called the "Gentle Giant of the Guitar" by the late great Allen Toussaint and "Master of the Stratocaster" among his fellow musicians and bandmates. Eric Clapton once called him "the best blues guitarist alive."

Lil Buck Sinegal recorded and toured with Blues and Zydeco legends like Slim Harpo, Carol Fran, Henry Grey, Big Mama Thornton, James "Thunderbird" Davis, Lee Dorsey, Joe Tex, Lazy Lester, Katie Webster, Camille "Lil Bob" Bob, Rockin' Dopsie, Buckwheat Zydeco, and Clifton Chenier.  In 1987, Lil Buck Sinegal contributed his musical talent to Paul Simon's  Grammy-winning album Graceland.

"Lil Buck" Sinegal was best known for playing with Clifton Chenier and Buckwheat Zydeco.  In 1976, "Lil Buck" Sinegal played guitar on Clifton Chenier & the Red Hot Louisiana Band's album "Bogalusa Boogie," a Zydeco Classic that, in 2011, was into the Grammy Hall of Fame that included the Beatles, the Jackson 5, Willie Nelson, Prince, Otis Redding, Ray Charles, Duke Ellington and other music icons.  In 2016, the Library of Congress deemed "Bogalusa Boogie" to be "culturally, historically, or artistically significant" and selected it for preservation in the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress.

He recorded his own blues songs like "Cat Scream" and "Monkey In The Sack" with his band Lil' Buck Sinegal & the Top Cats.
